Pandemic

Hello Folks,

We are almost at our third birthday, three years we’ve been helping people and groups together, time really does fly when your in such good company.

As a special celebration of our birthday we are helping teachers and so if you know anyone who teaches and inspires and deserves a reward please send your suggestions in and we will announce the recipients on March 4th to celebrate.

This weeks nomination is a joint one from two of our members, Chris has been working in Hong Kong and both have been moved to help personally which has inspired us as well. Please see the nomination below:

Dear Friends,

I know probably have many nominations at the moment but we wondered if you could consider the Bethune House Migrant Women’s Refuge in Hong Kong.

Bethune House is a home away from home for women migrant workers in distress seeking justice.  As fear of Coronavirus spreads, it is the poorest in society who suffer most. There are over 400,000 migrant workers in Hong Kong. The South China Morning Post wrote an excellent article which identifies some of the pressures on migrant workers as a result of Coronavirus.

Some workers have been made to return home to the Philippines but then have to pay for accommodation and visas as they are subject to quarantine. Some have had their contracts terminated, and at the moment the mission is desperately trying to get masks for some of the migrant workers whose employers haven’t provided them. We went down to the mission yesterday and gave a donation.

Many thanks,

Denise and Chris
