Happy new year everyone. I hope 2026 bring you everything you deserve. The weather warnings coming up suggest a bitter cold so hope you’re all able to stay safe and warm but for many less fortunate SWEP will be implemented.
SWEP stands for Severe Weather Emergency Protocol, a system used by local authorities, primarily in the UK, to provide emergency shelter and support for people sleeping rough during extreme weather conditions like freezing cold, heavy rain, wind, or extreme heat. It's a humanitarian response to prevent harm or death, often triggered by temperatures dropping to 0°C or below, but also considering factors like wind chill, snow, or intense heat. When active, councils open extra beds, increase outreach, and offer water/sunscreen to protect vulnerable individuals.
We thought this would be a timely week to help a charity that are working tirelessly to help vulnerable people not just in this bitter chill but indeed, all year round. Hayley Jennings is in charge of Helping Homeless Believe. She’s says
“After volunteering within different services for ten years, I wanted to do more to help. Having experienced homelessness myself along with family members battling addiction this has always been something close to my heart”
Most recently winning a BBC Make A Difference award for her dedication to helping the homeless we’d like to offer her and her institution £500 to continue her work during this important time. https://www.helpinghomelessbelieve.co.uk/about/
