Morning Everyone in our brilliant 500 team.

We hope you are well as spring arrives and we get more light.

This week we go into the start of our 10th year with a split pot, we are helping to feed people for both nominations

Nomination 1 came in January and we helped immediately and are only sharing now because of the time sensitive noms which came in between us helping.

Sophie’s nomination came in recently and we love that we have helped both and have provided these meals.

I’m volunteering in a classroom in Thika, Kenya with 50 incredible students aged 6-8. They have no books, no electricity, and share pencils, yet they’re thriving academically.

I also am feeding children who live in the Kibera slum with my team. These children are lucky if they get one meal a day. 1 in 5 children don’t even reach the age of 5 due to poor sanitation, limited access to clean water, crime and lack of healthcare. We are trying to feed around 300-400 children per day and as you can imagine this adds up immensely. So I am hoping to combine donations and help as many children as I possibly can from different areas with food and education resources.

I’m hoping to sponsor all 50 children in my class with basic learning supplies, including:

✔️2 pencils

✔️A rubber/eraser

✔️A sharpener

✔️A reading book

💛 It’s only £6 per student to cover all this

For the children in the slums, just ✔️£1 covers a meal for 1 child

✔️£5 covers 5 meals

✔️£10 covers 10 meals

A payment of just £11 covers both the learning supplies for one my students and ensures 5 children in the slums get a cooked meal. More is welcome but any donation is so appreciated and I’ll buy everything locally and share pictures/updates so you can see the impact.

The response.

Thank you so so much for your donation and support it really means the world - because of your generosity these children have had cooked meals of hot dogs and juice, we fed over 400 per visit with the donation! We also managed to get some books and supplies.

The images are below and here is the second nomination.

Hi Admins!

I would like to nominate Turnaround Bristol for the £500.

Turnaround is a big day centre in Lawrence Hill, Bristol.

We provide breakfast and a hot lunch four days a week plus showers and laundry for the street homeless.

Anyone homeless, vulnerable or facing food poverty can use the centre, along with anybody wanting a bit of kindness and community.

I am lucky enough to be based from the centre two days a week (running my tenancy sustainment and community integration project) and the hub is a place of warmth and friendship, that is some peoples only contact with others, run almost solely by volunteers.

The hot food the hub provides is often the pull that gets them engaging with our support workers and other outside agencies.

A hot nutritious meal is important in so many ways and therefore I’m asking for the money to go to them, knowing it will provide 320 hot meals to people who can sit and enjoy good food and community connection ❤️

Thanks for considering us

Sophie
