A sporting tragedy

Morning all! Today’s nomination comes courtesy of an extraordinary and diligent teacher who cares so much about young people and thought we’d be able to make life a little more bearable for one such child that has been through so much following a tragic sporting accident. I’ll let Michelle explain:

Another sad nomination follows and it may be triggering for any body who has suffered life altering injuries. Sorry for that.

So O joined our 6th form in Sept as a new 6th Former. He made a great first impression and has worked quietly throughout the year in school and on the football pitch for his local club.

About 6 weeks ago, O was playing a match and suffered a tragic accident. He and his own team's keeper went in for the ball at the same time. The keeper tried to kicked the ball away and instead connected with O’s leg. It resulted in a really nasty fracture.

O-G was rushed to hospital where they operated nearly 10 times over the course of a few weeks to try to repair the fracture but also prevent damage from compartment syndrome. Sadly, the operations were unsuccessful and O-G's lower leg was amputated. His life has completely changed. He and his family are amazing people who are supporting each other as best they can but the trips to Morriston hospital (over an hour away) are costing them all in petrol and they've had to convert the living room into his bedroom for now. Any support we can give would be greatly appreciated. The family at the moment aren't keen on any public fundraising due to O-G needing psychological support to adjust at the moment, which is I thought of our group.
