Morning all! This week’s nomination is for a brilliant bloke called Craig who is putting himself through the ringer and cycling from John O Groats to Bristol to raise money for two charities that due to his own lived experience are painfully close to his heart. They are both absolutely incredible and do life saving work so we are only too keen to support Craig (especially during this awful weather!!!!) Top man Craig and good luck from all of your friends at 500 Reasons x
Over the past few years, Craig has dedicated himself to raising money for two charities that are incredibly close to his heart: Mikey’s World, following the tragic loss of his apprentice and friend Mikey to knife crime in 2023, and Bristol Suicide Prevention after losing three close friends to suicide.
Craig says, “Mental health affects so many people in so many ways, and the team at Bristol Suicide Prevention do a fantastic job helping people through their darkest moments. Knife crime is also continuing to devastate lives, families and communities. It’s a senseless tragedy that needs to stop.”
Last year, Craig raised more than £7,000 by cycling from Bristol to Amsterdam. This year, he’s taking on an even bigger challenge.
Craig is cycling all the way from John O’Groats back to Bristol – an incredible 734-mile journey. To put that into perspective, it’s almost three times the distance covered by Olly Murs during his recent charity challenge.
Over approximately ten days, Craig will spend around 64 hours in the saddle, tackling busy roads, rough terrain, steep hills and whatever weather the UK throws at him. He’s carrying his own tent, sleeping bag, clothes and cooking equipment, making this a true test of endurance.
His goal is to raise £8,000 and beat last year’s total. The Bristol community is right behind him, and your support could make all the difference.
