England Women’s Deaf Football Team’s World Cup Campaign

Morning all! About a week ago our lovely member Ruth Martin wrote a nomination to ask if we could the England Deaf Women’s Football Team get to the World Cup as they get zero funding. 

As you might imagine this isn’t a small undertaking to get a whole team and coaching staff to Malaysia and they have raised half of the funds to confirm their attendance and now they must raise the other 50,000 pounds. 

The generosity of footballing legends Steven Gerrard and Gary Neville have been gratefully received and whilst we 500 mightn’t be quite so good at football, we thought we’d add our names to theirs in a push to get these women to Malaysia to compete in this elite tournament. 

We received the following note: 

“On behalf of the England Deaf Women’s Football Squad, I would like to thank you for your contribution to help us get to the World Cup 2023 in Malaysia. We have been overwhelmed by the support and it’s so powerful to see so many backing us. We hope to do you proud and bring it home” - Claire Stancliffe (England player)
